Ernie Els 7-putts from within 3 feet for a record 10 on first hole at Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Ernie Els created suspicious Experts record in the beginning circular Friday, reviewing a 10 on the par-4 first gap -- by two photos the maximum ranking on the gap in 4 decades of the competition. Els, 46, a Globe Tennis Area of Faber who has won four significant competition, 7-putted the first natural at Augusta Nationwide after cracking from off the natural to within 3 legs for what seemed to be a simple par. Four gamers had created an 8 on the first gap -- Olin Browne and Scott Simpson in 1998, Billy Casper in 2001 and Jeev Milka Singh in 2007. The maximum ranking on any gap is a 13. Tom Weiskopf created 13 at the par-3 Twelfth in 1980; Tommy Nakashima created 13 at the par-5 Thirteenth in 1998.
